Stillness In Time: Exploring The Urban Maze of Hong Kong's Back Alleys
Hong Kong's alleyways and back lanes, while often overlooked, play a crucial role in the city's urban landscape. These spaces are characterized by unique qualities that make them unique and inspiring. The unpredictability of alleys in terms of their scale, pattern, and levels creates an air of intrigue, such that even locals cannot anticipate what lies ahead. The narrow and enclosed nature of these alleys fosters a sense of intimacy and seclusion, making every visit a new and exciting discovery.

Alleys in Hong Kong are home to a variety of hidden treasures. Some alleys conceal sheds that lack a street number but have access to water, electricity, and even postal services. Others provide access to upstairs shops through back entrances, while still others house hidden rooms under public alleyway steps. The space within alleys seems to be left behind in another time, a forgotten space that houses surprising artifacts. Our exhibit aims to uncover and represent the uniqueness and fascination of Hong Kong's alleys and their hidden treasures. We plan to create an immersive installation that captures the experience of exploring these hidden spaces.

Our exhibit will showcase the qualities that make alleys special, including their intimacy, seclusion, and unpredictability, while highlighting the hidden gems within them. Through our exhibit, we hope to foster an appreciation for these often-overlooked spaces and to recognize their importance in the city's urban landscape.
